Woodlands School Council Meeting
Our School Council is very excited to welcome everyone back for the start of the 2025-26 school year. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend the School Council meeting which will be held on September 24 at 6:30 PM at Woodlands School in our Learning Commons. School Council welcomes all parents/guardians of Woodlands School who are interested in joining the council executive, or those who just want to listen, learn, and be part of sharing ideas about our school. Meeting dates for the year as well as meeting agendas, minutes, and Council members are on the Woodlands School website at the link above.
Emergency Plans Practice
In the month of September, we will have our first of six fire drills of the year, an in-class lockdown practice (without Calgary Police – they will arrange practices later in the year) and will discuss travelling to our evacuation site at William Roper Hull School. Conversations at home about these important safety practices would be great – to support student’s understanding of why we do them and why it’s important to be quick, calm and quiet when following instructions from staff in these situations.
Soccer Residency
Thanks to support from the Woodlands School Council, students in Grades K-6 will be participating in an active living soccer residency. Coach Scott will provide daily instruction in cooperative and fun skill building from September 8-12. Soccer will take place outside weather permitting.
Grade 2 and 3 Running Club
The Grade 2/3 Running club begins on Tuesday, September 9 until Thursday, September 25. Students will meet every Tuesday and Thursday. For the first part of the lunch the students will run/walk around the baseball field with Ms. Krahn and then return to Room 9 to eat their lunch. Students who finish eating may go outside for the remainder of lunch. Students are required to wear runners and dress in layers of clothing appropriate for the weather. Consent forms will go home with interested students.
Orange Shirt Day
In honour of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students are invited to wear and orange shirt to school on Friday, September 26. As a school, we will honor this day with an assembly and invitation for classes to take up learning appropriate to their age and connections to curriculum.
Woodlands Terry Fox Run
On Thursday, September 25 students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our school is proud to play an important role in supporting cancer research. Through our participation in the Terry Fox School Run, we hope to encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school community.
Families who wish to make a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research during the month of September can do so on the Woodlands School Terry Fox Fundraising Site (no cash donations please). The whole school will once again be running together outside around the baseball diamonds (North field) at 2 PM on this day. If you would like to volunteer, you are welcome to contact the main office at Woodlands@cbe.ab.ca or call 403-777-8640. All volunteers must have a valid CPS security clearance.
After School Dismissal
A reminder to families that there is no after school adult supervision at the playground or on the school grounds. Students are encouraged to leave the school to travel home after school, unless they are supervised by you at the playground or on school grounds. This really helps to reduce the likelihood of students in conflict with one another. We appreciate your support with this.
Woodlands Welcomes Volunteers
Are you wanting to Volunteer in your child’s classroom or on a field trip? All volunteers must have a valid police security check with the Calgary Police Service and have completed the Annual Volunteer Registration Form. Please see the CBE website for more information on volunteering, including the required registration and Police Information Check. All new volunteers must first register with the school (this can be done online through your MyCBE account). After registering with the school, parents wait for an email from Calgary Police Service – Record Check, to complete their police security check online. This ensures a voucher will be applied for the cost and there is no charge to parents. A copy of the security check will no longer be shared with schools. Volunteers must upload copy of their clearance to MyCBE/School Engage for approval before volunteering (or by email or in-person).
Your MyCBE Account
Please ensure you have access to your MyCBE account. MyCBE is the simplest and most convenient way to book parent teacher conferences, register for school services (e.g., lunch supervision), apply for waivers, and pay fees including noon supervision services, drop-in lunch fees and field trips.
Using MyCBE for ALL fee payments is the preferred payment option for all CBE families when paying for school-based and board-based fees. Credit/Debit card payments can also be made at the school. No Cash or Cheques accepted in the school office.
Need help setting up your MyCBE Account or with submitting a waiver, please view the step by step instructions on the CBE website under Technical support for Student & Parents or phone 403-817-7996 or email: ParentTechnicalSupport@cbe.ab.ca or visit the school for assistance.
Online Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization Forms
SchoolEngage is CBE’s online application for collecting student data. It is a program that allows legal guardians to submit student information through online forms and upload related documents. The following will need to be completed this year:
- Demographic Verification Form (formerly Student Demographic Verification Form)
- Annual Authorization Form (combines the following):
o School District Use of Personal Information
o Consent for CBE Use of Student Information
o Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups - Citizenship Information Update Form
- SchoolEngage can be accessed through the MyCBE Public Portal website for Legal Guardians. For detailed instructions for parents, please visit Technical Support for Students and Parents or School Engage Help. The Demographic Verification Form and Annual Authorization Form must be completed before the end of September.
Lunch Supervision – Registration Deadline End of September
A reminder to families to register for Lunch Supervision Services for those students bringing their lunch to school. Woodlands School has a 4-day a week Monday to Thursday program. Students must register for the Noon Supervision program through MyCBE. For more information visit our Noon Supervision page. Registration is required now. The fee will be applied to your MyCBE Account mid October. Waivers are available through your MyCBE account to low-income families for this fee.
Reporting Late and Absent Students
At Woodlands School one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely to school. Please report all late and/or absent students. Send emails to woodlands@cbe.ab.ca or call our attendance line at 403-777-8640 extension 1 to leave a message. Please do not call the office directly, as the mornings are very busy in the main office. If your child will be away for several days for any reason, emailing or calling the school with dates for an extended absence is required. When a student is away on an extended leave of two weeks or more, an Extended Absence Form must be completed by a legal guardian.
Free YMCA Pass for Grade 6 students
Every Grade 6 student in Calgary is eligible to receive a free YMCA 13-month membership to the YMCA, thanks to the generous support of the Calgary Flames Foundation. Learn more: https://www.ymcacalgary.org/grade6
