Teachers and Students Soccer

We had a fun match on Friday, September 19 with squads of grade 4, 5 and 6 students and many teachers.  It was great to see some awesome plays, good sportsmanship and handshakes all around after the game.  All students were outside to cheer on their favorite team on a perfect sunny day.

Labour Action Information

We recognize that parents are looking for information about possible labour action from Alberta teachers that may impact day to day school on and after October 6.  The CBE has a Labour Action page on its public site.  This site provides current information for parents and guardians about any potential or active labour action that includes staff that work in or support schools.  You also receive email updates from CBE with labour action information as it is available.  At present, regular instruction continues to occur in all CBE schools.

Woodlands School Council Meeting

Our School Council is very excited to welcome everyone back for the start of the 2025-26 school year.  All parents/guardians are welcome to attend the School Council meeting which will be held on September 24 at 6:30 PM at Woodlands School in our Learning Commons.  Please see the email invitation with attached agenda or the School Council section of the Woodlands School website for information about School Council and the Fundraising Society.

Woodlands Terry Fox Run

On Thursday, September 25 students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our school is proud to play an important role in supporting cancer research.  Through our participation in the Terry Fox School Run, we hope to encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school community.

Families who wish to make a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research during the month of September can do so on the Woodlands School Terry Fox Fundraising Site (no cash donations please).  The whole school will once again be running together outside around the baseball diamonds (North field) at 2 PM on this day. If you would like to volunteer, you are welcome to contact the main office at Woodlands@cbe.ab.ca or call 403-777-8640.  All volunteers must have a valid CPS security clearance.

Orange Shirt Day

In honour of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students are invited to wear and orange shirt to school on Friday, September 26.  As a school, we will honor this day with an assembly and invitation for classes to take up learning appropriate to their age and connections to curriculum.

Healthy Hunger

This year, Woodlands School Council will organize ‘fun lunches” through the Healthy Hunger application.  Please visit www.healthyHunger.ca and click Register Your Student.  After your account is created, you will be able to view all up-coming Fun Lunches, place orders and then pay for your orders by credit card. (More information on creating an account: Woodlands Healthy Hunger)

The following lunches are planned so far:

  • October 16 – iHop
  • November 20 – Boston Pizza
  • December 18 – Waffles & Chix

If your student is absent on the day of the Fun Lunch, we will hold the lunch for you to pick up if you contact the school before lunch on that day otherwise the lunch will be donated or discarded.

AMA Safety Patrols

Soon, we will have new teams of AMA Safety Patrols (expected early October after training by AMA team).  We appreciate your thoughtful parking in a way that allows students to have the visibility to do their job.

Thank-you for supporting additional safety measures around the school, including no student drop off in the parking lot and refraining from walking through the parking lot.
