 Alberta Education Assurance Survey – Your Voice Matters!

The Alberta Education Assurance Survey is administered each year by Alberta Education to teachers, students and parents. It provides an opportunity to give feedback on what is working well and what challenges exist in education in Alberta. At Woodlands, our students in Grades 4-6 will participate in the survey in class during the month of February. 

Further information will be shared about parent access to the survey. The results from these surveys are used at the provincial, system and school level to make decisions about school improvement. Please contact the office should you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your feedback. 

Winter Play Day

Our school Winter Play Day will be full of fun and activity for students in Grade 1-6 on Thursday, February 20 in the afternoon. Click on the link above to learn what you need to know about this day!

  • Dress for the weather; wear layers
  • Have boots, mitts and hats
  • Bring a hearty lunch and snack on this day 

Hot chocolate station - if you prefer for your student not to have the hot chocolate, please communicate this to your child’s teacher. 

Flex Friday

Flex Friday is a school-wide plan to help students experience feelings of belonging and connection by spending time with another teacher and another group of students. Seven times in the 2024-25 school year, students will come together with their Flex Friday grouping to do a fun and collaborative activity with their group. 

Calgary Opera Presents: The Witty Squirrel at Woodlands on February 25

An orphaned squirrel promises to prepare a feast for the King and his court in exchange for the gift of a set of golden teeth. What could go wrong? 

This season’s Family Opera is a Canadian and English language premiere: Nino Rota’s The Witty Squirrel. Known for his famous film scores like The Godfather trilogy and La Dolce Vita, Rota’s cinematic style gives life to this vibrant tale about embracing talents, facing challenges, and making wise choices. 

Thanks very much to the Woodlands School Council for their generous support of this special musical presentation for all students. 

Pink Shirt Day

Dear Parents and Families, 

I’m excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from March 17 – March 21 at Woodlands School. 

The Scholastic Book Fair empowers our students to choose books they love, and with so many options, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s Fair is going to be epic, but we need volunteers to make it happen. We hope that you can offer your time and talents to help students become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers—which in turn makes them bolder, prouder, and stronger individuals. And since every purchase benefits our school, helping is twice as rewarding. 

If you’re available to lend a hand at this upcoming event, please contact me and share which shifts you are available for and how many you can do.
