Welcome back Students and Families

We are pleased to welcome back all Woodlands students! As of Wednesday, October 29, we have returned to typical operations.  Any planned activities (fieldtrips, photo retakes, vaccinations, etc.) that have been postponed will be rescheduled for future dates. Please continue to refer to CBE wide emails to families for general information about return to school. We will communicate any information specific to Woodlands School through this weekly message and additional emails, as necessary.

Thank you to the Woodlands School students and families for your patience during the labour action. We are pleased to resume learning and connecting with students each day.

Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids – Return to Regular Operations

Temporary community pick-up locations will close Tuesday, October 28, as we return to our regular school delivery model, ensuring kids have access to lunch in schools.

Halloween at School

Students are welcome to bring a costume that they would like to wear on October 31. The costume should include no mask, weapons or violent or inappropriate messages. If this is the case, the student will be asked to remove this part of their costume.  Learning activities will continue and we thank families for not sending in any food items (food sent in will be returned). Thanks to the Woodlands School Council for providing the great opportunity to celebrate Halloween as a community with food and costumes at the Halloween Dance which took place on October 23.

Healthy Hunger

This year, Woodlands School Council will organize ‘fun lunches” through the Healthy Hunger application.  Please visit www.healthyHunger.ca and click Register Your Student.  After your account is created, you will be able to view all up-coming Fun Lunches, place orders and then pay for your orders by credit card. (More information on creating an account: Woodlands Healthy Hunger)

The following lunches are planned so far:

  • November 6 - IHOP
  • November 20 – Boston Pizza
  • December 18 – Waffles & Chix

If your student is absent on the day of the Fun Lunch, we will hold the lunch for you to pick up if you contact the school before lunch on that day otherwise the lunch will be donated or discarded.

Dress for Success!

Students go outside for a 15 minute recess and for 20 minutes at lunch to play, socialize and exercise unless the temperature drops below -20 degrees Celsius with the wind chill or is too rainy. With Calgary weather being so unpredictable, students must be prepared for changing weather conditions with proper winter coats, snow pants, hats, boots and warm mittens. Many students are coming to school without these items, especially hats and mittens.  Please ensure your child has all essential outdoor items before they leave home. And that they are prepared to wear them here at school.

CBE schools rarely close due to snow or cold temperatures. All CBE schools remain open to provide a safe, warm and secure environment for students. We respect parents/guardians right to make their own decisions about sending their children to school during extreme weather events. If your child will not be attending classes, please ensure you contact the attendance line to report the absence (403) 777-8640 ext 1.
