Woodlands’ Outdoor Classroom
We’re thrilled to announce the near completion of our brand-new Outdoor Classroom—a vibrant, hands-on learning space designed to connect students with nature and spark curiosity beyond the walls of the school.
This special area features comfortable seating of Kootenai Brownstone boulders, and surrounding trees and shrubs that invite exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Teachers will use the space for learning connections before and after visits to Fish Creek Park, science investigations, reading circles, art projects, and more—helping students discover that learning truly happens everywhere!
A heartfelt thank you to our Woodlands School Council who made this project possible. Your generosity and hard work have created a lasting resource that will inspire students for years to come.
Stay tuned for our official opening event and updates as our classes begin using the space.
Healthy Hunger
This year, Woodlands School Council will organize ‘fun lunches” through the Healthy Hunger application. Please visit www.healthyHunger.ca and click Register Your Student. After your account is created, you will be able to view all up-coming Fun Lunches, place orders and then pay for your orders by credit card. (More information on creating an account: Woodlands Healthy Hunger)
The following lunches are planned so far (place your order 5 days in advance):
- November 6 - IHOP
- November 20 – Boston Pizza
- December 18 – Waffles & Chix
If your student is absent on the day of the Fun Lunch, we will hold the lunch for you to pick up if you contact the school before lunch on that day otherwise the lunch will be donated or discarded.
Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is always a very special event in schools. Our honoring of this special day will take place in classrooms this year, due to the shortened time we had to prepare for this event. A number of resources have been shared among teachers to create an age-appropriate and respectful learning experience for Remembrance Day. Possibilities include: the Lest We Forget and How We Remember online event from the Calgary Public Library, a range of online story links and videos with topics of peace, kindness, freedom and service, including stories of Canadian service people past and present, learning activities focused on art and writing, and a whole school message on Friday, November 7 at 11 AM including a moment of silence. Each student will receive a poppy and sticker from the 2025 Poppy Campaign. Poppies are available to all in our school office for a small donation.
We hope to return to an in-person event next school year where family members can join us.
Reminder | Dogs on School Grounds

- A School Ground, Playground, Sports Field, Golf Course, Cemetery, Wading or Swimming Area; or
- Any other area where dogs are prohibited by posted signs.
- The Owner of a dog must ensure that such dog does not enter or remain in the park, or any part thereof, where the dog is within five (5) meters of a Play Structure, a Wading or Swimming area, a sports Field, a Golf Course or a Cemetery.
Thank you for your consideration of others.

The Understandable Girl is a story of the importance of a first friendship between a young Canadian girl and young Ukrainian refugee told through the universal language of creative play and puppetry using English and easily understood Ukrainian. The play demonstrates how little imagination it takes to understand someone if you really listen. This one-hour performance focuses on themes of friendship, similarities and differences, and Ukrainian Culture.
Terry Fox Donations
Woodlands collected $865.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation through the generosity of our learning community. Thanks to all who contributed!
Alien In-Line Skating
The Alien In-Line Skating residency runs November 17, 18, 19, 20, 24 and 25. This residency of in-line skating is for students in grades 1-6. Each class has 3 periods of 1 hour each to skate during the residency. Thanks to the Woodlands School Council for their generous support of this activity for students.
