Trivia Night for Families
All students received a flyer recently for Trivia Night for Families hosted by Woodlands School Council. Please return your form by Thursday April 16 for this fun, free event. Huge thanks to Woodlands School Council for another community event!
Staffing Update
Woodlands School received notification that we would be one of 118 CBE schools to receive funding for an Alberta Education Classroom Complexity Team. Teacher Jessica Younkers has joined our team and will provide literacy and well-being support to classes in grades 1-6. With this funding we were able to increase EA hours to bring five EAs to 30 hours per week. These EAs are assigned across the grade levels and in our Enhanced Educational Supports program to support learning and positive behavior support/regulation
Learning Commons Collection Donations
With the support of School Council, we are working to establish a design/maker station in our learning commons for classes to use. If you have any collections of small items – like paper towel rolls, buttons, nuts and bolts, spools, straws or other small items, we would appreciate these donations and will add them to our design learning station. Please bring these items to the office or send them with your student.
School Planning Engagement Feedback
Thanks to all parents for your feedback around school planning for the School Development Plan and Budget and Fees for 2026-27 that took place as a discussion at School Council meeting on March 11. A summary of the discussion is available on our website using the link above.
Parking Lot | Safety Issue
Please DO NOT drop-off or pick-up students in the staff parking lot. Pulling up to the main doors and then backing out of the lot is dangerous for both you and our students. Please give yourself adequate time for proper pick-up and drop-off along Woodgreen Drive or the public parking lot across the street, even if you are late. Students are reminded to walk around the parking lot area – not through it!
Clothing Request
The school needs pants (size 8-12) as emergency clothing for students. If you have items that your child(ren) have outgrown, please consider donating them to the school. Thank you!
School Council | Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches
This year, Woodlands School Council will organize ‘fun lunches” through the Healthy Hunger application. Click on the link above for more information on ordering (place your order 5 days in advance). If your student is absent on the day of the Fun Lunch, we will hold the lunch for you to pick up if you contact the school before lunch on that day otherwise the lunch will be donated or discarded.
The following lunches are planned:
April 22 – Taco Time
May 20 – Little Caesars
Elementary Track & Field City Championships
Teachers are encouraged to help share and support a new opportunity for elementary students across Calgary. The Elementary School Track & Field City Championships will take place on Saturday, May 31 and is open to students in Grades 3–6. This event is designed to build physical literacy through fun and inclusive experiences in running, jumping, and throwing, helping to address a gap in opportunities for younger students.
What you can do:
· Review the event brochure in the link
· Share the information with students, families, and your school community
· Encourage interested students to participate
· Consider promoting through newsletters, School Messenger, Google Classrooms, or school announcements
This is a great opportunity to support students’ well-being, confidence, and engagement in physical activity while introducing them to track and field in a positive, accessible way.
