Outdoor School - Mandatory Parent Meeting
There will be a meeting for parents of all grade 5 and 6 students regarding the Outdoor School experience on September 9 at 6 PM. A Counsellor from Camp Chief Hector is coming to share the camp layout, packing details and experiences students will have on the trip. Planning and booking of the trip has been in the making since last year and is a tradition for students at Woodlands School and across the CBE where learning occurs outdoors in the Bow Valley and students gain a valuable and memorable experience. Thank you to Mr. Herold, Mr. Smith and Ms. Ellis for leading the planning and organization of this trip.
Nature Play Residency
Thanks to support from the Woodlands School Council, students in Grades K-6 will be participating in a residency that supports wellness and the learning of high quality outdoor play experiences. Students will need to be prepared to be outside for activities on the school yard or walking to pre-selected areas in Fish Creek Park. The residency starts on Monday, September 14 and is rescheduled from October last year. We will send a letter home from Natures Play on Friday after teachers have discussed the learning opportunity with their classes.
Book Fair
We're excited to announce that our school will be hosting a NEW Book Fair this year from Owl’s Nest which is local company to Calgary, it will take place from September 16 – September 18 at Woodlands Elementary. This is an excellent fundraiser for our wonderful Library. Are you available to volunteer? See Related Information for details.
Meet the Teacher and Woodlands School Council – Ice Cream Social – Sept 17
You and your family are invited to Woodlands School for a Meet the Teacher evening and the Woodlands School Council Association Ice-cream Social Fundraiser on Thursday September 17 from 5 -7 pm. They will also be accepting bottles for the Bottle Drive!
Rain or Shine this event will take place outside by the school playground. This is a lovely way to connect as a school community and meet with families and friends after the summer break!!

Woodlands School Council Meeting
Our School Council is very excited to welcome everyone back for the start of the 2025-26 school year. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend the School Council meeting which will be held on September 23 at 6:30 PM at Woodlands School in our Learning Commons. School Council welcomes all parents/guardians of Woodlands School who are interested in joining the council executive, or those who just want to listen, learn, and be part of sharing ideas about our school. Emergency Plans Practice
In the month of September, we will have our first of six fire drills of the year, an in-class lockdown practice (without Calgary Police – they will arrange practices later in the year) and will discuss travelling to our evacuation site at William Roper Hull School. Conversations at home about these important safety practices would be great – to support student’s understanding of why we do them and why it’s important to be quick, calm and quiet when following instructions from staff in these situations.
Woodlands Terry Fox Run
On Thursday, September 24 students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our school is proud to play an important role in supporting cancer research. Through our participation in the Terry Fox School Run, we hope to encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school community.
Families who wish to make a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research during the month of September can do so on the

(no cash donations please). The whole school will once again be running together outside around the baseball diamonds (North field) at 2 PM on this day. If you would like to volunteer, you are welcome to contact the main office at Woodlands@cbe.ab.ca or call 403-777-8640. All volunteers must have a valid CPS security clearance.
Orange Shirt Day
In honour of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students are invited to wear and orange shirt to school on Tuesday, September 29. As a school, we will honor this day with an assembly and invitation for classes to take up learning appropriate to their age and connections to curriculum.
After School Dismissal
A reminder to families that there is no after school adult supervision at the playground or on the school grounds. Students are encouraged to leave the school to travel home after school, unless they are supervised by you at the playground or on school grounds. This really helps to reduce the likelihood of students in conflict with one another. We appreciate your support with this.
Reporting Late and Absent Students
At Woodlands School one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely to school. Please report all late and/or absent students. Send emails to woodlands@cbe.ab.ca or call our attendance line at 403-777-8640 extension 1 to leave a message. Please do not call the office directly, as the mornings are very busy in the main office. If your child will be away for several days for any reason, emailing or calling the school with dates for an extended absence is required. When a student is away on an extended leave of two weeks or more, an Extended Absence Form must be completed by a legal guardian.
Free YMCA Pass for Grade 6 students
