Inform | Kindergarten Registration 2026-27

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year will begin on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026. Children can be registered for kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before Dec. 31 of the school year they will be in kindergarten. For example, when registering for the 2026-27 school year, the child must turn five on or before Dec. 31, 2026.

Additionally, parents can find information on kindergarten registration on the public CBE website.

Registering early for kindergarten helps the school organize for the coming year. If you have an older child in grades 1-6, please register your kindergarten eligible child as early as possible.

Woodlands School Council Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 6:30 PM in the Woodlands School Learning Commons. You can also join the meeting online. The link to the online meeting will be sent closer to the date with the agenda.

Students will begin gymnastics instruction in PE during the week of January 12 and continue until January 28. Students will follow a safe instructional progression.  Long hair should be tied back. Please connect with your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Open House

Open House Information

Many schools across CBE hold Open Houses for interested families early in the school year. This can be of particular interest for students transitioning from Grade 6 to Grade 7. Please follow the link for all open house information across CBE. As Harold Panabaker School is the designated CBE School for Woodlands’ students grades 7-9, we have included a link to their open house below. If you have an interest in an alternative program in CBE, please note the date to submit an expression of interest form.

Late Arrivals

As we move into the new year, we would like to bring your attention to the issue of students arriving late to school. While Woodlands has strong student attendance, we do have a number of students arriving late each day. Arriving at school on time allows students to enter with their friends, helps them start the day prepared, keeps them from missing important instruction, and builds strong habits. It also avoids classroom interruptions.

We ask that students arrive prior to 8:35 AM so they can enter their designated doors and begin the day with their classmates. Please do not enter the parking lot to drop off late students. The signage indicates that the parking lot is not for student drop off.

We are still having high numbers of late students. Entrance of these students through the front doors impacts our ability to keep the building secure for all students. Thanks very much for your efforts toward arriving on time.

Clothing Request

The school needs pants (size 8 to 12) as emergency clothing for students. We also need mittens for students who have forgotten/lost theirs. If you have items that your child(ren) have outgrown, please consider donating them to the school. Thank you!

Parking Lot and Road Safety Reminders

Drivers are reminded to please obey all parking signs and bylaws near the crosswalk to ensure the safety and visibility of our students as they cross. As well, we ask drivers to please avoid making U-Turns in front of the school, backing into our neighbours' driveways and from sending your student directly across the street from your car.

Families are reminded to not use the staff parking lot for dropping off students or picking up students at any time (including when late or during the school day). This practice is a safety concern for children. Thank you to the many adults who are using the parking lot across the street or Woodgreen Drive to drop off or pick up their children. The children are reminded to walk around the parking lot area and not through it.

Dogs on School Property

This is a reminder that CBE Administrative Regulation AR6004 - Animals in Schools restricts animals on school property. Dogs are not permitted on school grounds except where expressly approved under AR6004 (e.g., service animals or authorized educational purposes).

Additionally, the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw prohibits dogs on school property, including playgrounds and fields.
