Woodlands School Carnival - June 18
Brought to you by the Woodlands School Council. Please join us Thursday, June 18 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the school for an evening of food, fun and prizes!
This wonderful family evening includes:
- games and activities for the kids
- snacks and drinks available for purchase
- a cake walk
- live entertainment
All proceeds raised from this event will go towards Woodlands School Council, which works to support our children’s education by subsidizing field trips, residencies, support materials, learning space upgrades, and more.
Grade 6 Farewell Celebration – June 18
A farewell celebration for students in Grade 6 will be held Thursday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. Thank you to all our grade 6 teachers and volunteers on the Parent Committee who have helped to organize this special event. The purpose of this assembly is to recognize the many achievements and accomplishments of the students as they move on to middle school. Parents and guardians of Grade 6 students are invited to attend this special event. Doors will open at 1:45 PM.
Netball Alberta Residency in PE - June 15-19
We are pleased to offer netball instruction for all students through Netball Alberta during the week of June 15-19. This residency is possible through the generosity of the Woodlands School Council – it is free for all students.
Netball is a team sport played by two teams of seven players on a rectangular court with a goal at each end. The objective is to score by throwing the ball through a ring attached to a post, while preventing the opposing team from scoring. It involves passing, shooting, and strategic movement, with players assigned specific positions and movement restrictions.
Thanks Patrollers
Huge thanks to our 40 students who helped students cross the street safely this year. Patrollers were recognized at the AMA Patroller's Picnic at Heritage Park on June 8. Thanks very much to our School Council for supporting the cost of this event for patrollers. We are grateful for our patrol students dedicated service this year!
Traffic and Pedestrian Safety
We would like to ask for your attention to an important safety concern in and around Woodlands School.
We have recently had a CBE Transportation and Traffic Safety Advisor come to Woodlands School at AM and PM drop off to observe traffic and safety patterns.
A significant safety issue that was observed was many parents making U-Turns when heading eastbound on Woodgreen Drive beyond the school. A high level of student pedestrian traffic was observed at the time parents were making U-Turns. This is an area where a No U-Turn sign is posted.
To avoid making U-Turns on Woodgreen Drive, endangering students who are walking to and from school, parents are encouraged to drive through Woodgreen Crescent to turn around.
For those parents who are exiting Woodgreen Crescent onto Woodgreen Drive heading westbound, many were observed rolling through the yield sign without looking right for student pedestrians.
It is our hope that Calgary Police Service is able to respond to our request to visit Woodgreen Drive east of the school to address these safety issues with drivers.
We have also requested City of Calgary review signage in this area to consider additional No U-Turn signage and possible traffic calming curbs or other measures to deter U-Turns.
Additionally, we have requested a signage change with the City of Calgary to allow for Buses only to stop in front of the school, with a parent drop off area to the west of the school parking lot. We will share this when the signage is updated.
We continue to have parents entering the staff parking lot area although signage indicates that this space is not for student drop off. We ask that parents observe this safety request. We also ask that parents and students refrain from walking through this parking area as we have vehicles coming and going throughout the day.
We will share a message with all students about traffic and pedestrian safety as they travel to and from school. We ask that you please reinforce travelling, crossing and bicycle safety with your children at home.

Staffing Updates
Woodlands School will be the recipient of a Class Size Reduction Teacher assigned to target class size for next year. This staff member will be added to our assigned classroom teachers for 2026-27.
Welcome to Marina Clark, the new Principal of Woodlands School! Marina will begin in late August 2026.
Stampede Breakfast for Students and Families - June 24
We are very excited to be joined by the Calgary Stampede Breakfast Team on the morning of Wednesday, June 24 for an end-of year pancake breakfast.
We expect to begin serving students breakfast at about 8:40 AM by class, going youngest to oldest (Kindergarten to Grade 6). Family members of Woodlands students are invited to join us for breakfast. You can join your student in line as they are served with their class, or you may join the family line.
Their team will serve up pancakes (contain eggs, milk and wheat flour), syrup and sausages (halal turkey). Please contact your child’s teacher if there are items at the breakfast that you would prefer they not eat. The Stampede team is not able to accommodate dietary restrictions.
Woodlands School Council will provide a juice box beverage on this day. You may wish to have your child bring a water bottle if they prefer to drink water with their breakfast.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found items are piling up! The Grade 6 Farewell or the Woodlands Carnival evening would be a good time to check for any of those missing items that your child can’t seem to find (or stop by the office after the end of the school day). We have sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, snow pants, hats and mittens. Items not claimed by Summer Break will be donated to charity. Please ensure you pick up any lost items before Friday, June 26.
Transportation Registration for 2026-2027 Now Open
Families are now able to apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. Registrations must be received by June 14, 2026 to ensure students are added to routes for the first day of classes next year. Late registration will continue to be received but will result in a delay in access to the bus route.
- A banner story about service levels and proposed fees has been posted to the corporate and school websites.
- Conditional Rider forms will be available on June 15.
- Confirmed bus routes will be posted for families who registered by the deadline in MyCBE in late August.
- The transportation fee has increased to $500/rider and $250 for one-way kindergarten riders. We recognize this is a significant increase. For several years, the CBE was able to minimize transportation fee increases by using surplus funds, accumulated by delaying implementation of the shorter transportation eligibility distances for two years, to help offset rising costs. These surplus funds are almost exhausted. At the same time, the overall cost of providing transportation has increased, including rising fuel costs and specialized supports. As a result, a fee increase is required to balance the budget and maintain current service levels for students.
We remain committed to supporting families. Fee waivers and supports will be available to ensure students continue to access the transportation services they need.
Families can cancel with no financial impact by submitting a cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2026.
English as an Additional Language
